My name is Wouter Vijfhuize. Welcome to my academic website. I am currently a PhD student in philosophy at The Pennsylvania State University. On this website, I showcase my research and teaching experience.
My academic philosophical interests lie in the areas of critical theory, phenomenology, and German Idealism. My research focuses on debates about the inheritance of German Idealism in early Twentieth-Century German philosophy–especially the first generation of the Frankfurt School and the phenomenological tradition. My agenda consists of two lines of research: primarily, a critical re-appraisal of Theodor W. Adorno’s rationalist commitments and a broader genealogical project that traces the concepts of critique (Kritik), freedom (Freiheit), and crisis (Krisis) from the German Enlightenment to debates in 20th-Century German philosophical traditions.
